Who We Are ?

>> version française

Constituted on 10 December 2008, sixty years after the promulgation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Plus digne la vie is an action group bringing together those who understand that an ethical concern for others also involves possessing the courage to make a commitment to them and their combat in situations where the dignity of their life is closely bound up with our own conception of dignity. Participants meet in a context conducive to discussion, the improvement of knowledge and the development of practical ideas (in a process of consultation with professionals and decision-makers).

We feel that it is our urgent duty to contribute to the debates and choices confronting society and to further mediation between those whose task it is to share and implement the increasingly essential sum of experience, knowledge and requirements. Together we need to restate and affirm the principles inspired by the idea of dignity. We must apply these principles in situations of great fragility, distress and injustice, when a person’s existence is imperilled and hangs on nothing more than our ability to show him our solidarity.

“Plus digne la vie” is an open-minded action group that goes beyond ideological divides in an effort to come up with proposals and lines of action.

Launched by a team put together by Professor Emmanuel Hirsch (University of Paris-Sud 11, President of the Research Association on Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), the “Plus digne la vie” Action Group is coordinated by an Executive Council, which is to be expanded in the coming months to ensure greater representativeness and efficiency.
